The Didache Series

Written in the first century, the Didache [DID-uh-kay] is the first known Christian catechesis and the earliest known Christian writing outside of Scripture. The name of the work, Didache, is appropriate for such a catechesis because it comes from the Greek word for “teaching” and indicates that this writing contains the teaching of the Apostles and, as such, it is the teaching of the Church.
Today, the most comprehensive catechesis is the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The Didache Series presents the life and doctrine of the Catholic Church in the context of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the teachings of Vatican II as witnessed by the pontificates of Pope St. John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and Pope Francis. The series also draws from Sacred Scripture, the lives of the Saints, and the Doctors and Fathers of the Church.
The Didache Series has been published since 2003 at the invitation of Francis Cardinal George of the Archdiocese of Chicago, who requested a series of “texts that would set out clearly and adequately the teaching of the Catholic Church.” Each textbook of the Didache Series has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church by the USCCB.

The Didache Semester Series (6 core subjects; 5 electives) is a curriculum developed to help teachers and students build lifelong theological foundations based on knowledge of God through the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Our textbooks present students with the life and doctrine of the Catholic Church as expressed in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Sacred Scripture, the Lives of the Saints, and the Doctors and Fathers of the church.
The Christological approach of the series also examines the Church as an encounter with Christ, providing students with doctrinal knowledge and practical means for living the Catholic faith as witnesses in the world.
Each course fulfills the requirement of the USCCB Curriculum Framework and has been granted Ecclesiastical approval. The complete set includes a Student Textbook, Student Workbook, and Teacher’s Manual.

Derived from the popular Didache Semester Series, the Didache Parish Series has been prepared according to the USCCB Adaption of the Curriculum Framework for Parish Religious Education and Youth Ministry Programs.
Based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the eight-book series provides a thorough overview of the faith and is presented in an easy and accessible format. Each book is divided into individual weekly lessons intended to be covered over the course of one semester.
The Didache Parish Series is also a practical and affordable resource for parish religious education programs and the lay faithful. The complete set includes a textbook and presenter’s guide.
The Didache Sacramental Preparation Series helps guide the laity through the spiritual, mental, and religious formation to participate fully in the Church’s sacraments of First Holy Communion, Confirmation, and Holy Matrimony.
The curriculum is well-suited for parish religious education programs, home-school programs, and individual study.
Each book was prepared in light of Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, the lives of the saints, and the formational requirements of the USCCB.
The Didache Complete Course Series is comprised of four high-school level textbooks with accompanying Student Workbooks and Teacher Manuals, intended to be covered over the course of a full year. All four textbooks are published with Ecclesiastical Approval and have been granted conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church by the USCCB Subcommittee on the Catechism.
