Ernest Caparros

Ernest Caparros was a professor emeritus of civil law at the University of Ottawa and visiting professor at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome. He taught comparative law, civil law, and canon law from 1966 to 1980 at Laval University, where he edited the Cahiers de Droit (1965-1970) and was also the vice-dean of the law faculty from 1971 to 1977 when he moved to the University of Ottawa. He taught there until 2002 while also editing the Revue générale de droit (from 1981 to 2002). He received his doctorate in civil law from Laval University and in canon law from the University of Navarre in Spain. He was the director of the Gratianus Series for Wilson & Lafleur Publishers. An expert in family law, canon law, and comparative law, he was an esteemed lecturer and author of numerous books and articles. He was a member of the Royal Society of Canada, the International Academy of Comparative Law, and the Knights of Malta.
