
This month, we are proud to highlight the work and publications of Fr. Peter Armenio. Ordained in 1980 as a priest of the Prelature of Opus Dei, Fr. Peter has served in a variety of roles, including Vicar of Opus Dei for the Midwest region of the United States. From 2006 to 2012, he served as President of the St. Josemaria Institute, an organization dedicated to promoting the teachings of St. Josemaria Escriva. Today, he also continues to serve as President of Midwest Theological Forum (MTF).
Over the course of his ministry, Fr. Peter has demonstrated unwavering dedication to helping the faithful deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith. He is widely recognized for his deep commitment to educational initiatives, spiritual formation, and campus ministry.
Educational Contributions
Fr. Peter has made significant contributions to Catholic education through his authorship of several works published by Midwest Theological Forum, including:
- Our Moral Life in Christ, College Edition: An insightful presentation of the Church’s moral doctrine, designed for those seeking a deeper union with Christ and with one another in him.
- Highlights of the Catholic Faith: Emphasizes that learning the Catholic faith should extend beyond academics; it is meant to be joyfully lived and shared, beginning within one’s family and radiating out to friends and colleagues.
- The History of the Church, The Didache Series: A comprehensive overview of the Church's history, this work is utilized in educational settings to deepen understanding of the Church's origins and evolution.
Spiritual Formation Initiatives
Beyond his writings, Fr. Peter has also been actively involved in the formation of seminarians through programs like The Rome Experience. As President, he oversees this initiative, which immerses seminarians in the cultural and spiritual heritage of the Church. The program offers a five-day silent retreat, six weeks of study and spiritual formation, daily Mass, and opportunities for fraternity and intellectual growth.
Campus Ministry
Fr. Peter’s commitment to education also extends to teaching and spiritual formation in campus ministry. He has served as chaplain at institutions such as Lexington Institute, Willows Academy, Northridge Preparatory High School, and Calvert House of the University of Chicago in the Archdiocese of Chicago. With over three decades of experience, he has profoundly impacted the spiritual lives of students, faculty, and families alike.
